'Raised right': A group of Tongan students are going viral for their unexpected act of kindness

“THIS is what it’s all about!"

A group of Tongan school boys are getting a load of love and praise for showing kindness to a hard-working maintenance man.

In footage doing the viral rounds, the three boys from Brisbane’s St Joseph's Nudgee College stopped to help their accommodations maintenance worker empty the bins and replace the bags during his shift.

“Humility and respect are 2 of the 4 pillars of Tonga and this small act of kindness is a great example.. malo lahi boys,” Māfana Media wrote alongside the clip on Instagram.

The video racked up nearly 100k views, with people flooding the comments to give the boys big ups for their selflessness.

One commenter wrote: “I think it happens everywhere with our Pasifika people. Even for myself, I can’t help but see someone working in front of me, knowing it’s their job but for us island people, we are willing to help in any way we can because that’s who we are.”

“We were raised that way,” they added. “It’s our heart. I’m pretty sure our boys saw that man and imagined, 'What if that was their dad?'”

Another agreed: “They were raised right 🙌”

“THIS is what it’s all about. ❤️ Parents and family should be real proud,” said a third.

In a follow-up clip, the maintenance man himself expressed his thanks and wished the boys all the best for their futures.

It’s a great reminder that even the simplest of acts can leave such a big impact on someone's day. Good on ya, boys!
