Spotify Wrapped reveals the top local artists and songs Aotearoa listened to in 2023

We certainly have our favourites.

This morning, you would have been confronted with your music listening habits. That’s right, it’s Spotify Wrapped day.

Whether you’re celebrating, a bit cut or just straight-up confused, I’m sure you wanna know what the rest of Aotearoa was listening to.

Luckily, Spotify has revealed our country’s favourite local artists, songs and albums.

Aotearoa’s Most Streamed Local Artists

Our homegrown favourites have mostly stayed the same compared to last year. Six60 is still number one and L.A.B is still number two. Are we really surprised?

Sons of Zion moved up from fifth last year to third in 2023 and Katchafire stayed at number four. At the fifth spot is Lorde, potentially capturing more listeners thanks to her doing a few shows here early in the year.

Aotearoa’s Most Streamed Local Songs

Them Reggae boys absolutely DOMINATED when it comes to NZ’s favourite local songs. L.A.B had the first, second, third AND fourth most popular songs in NZ made by Kiwi artists.

‘In The Air’ was #1, followed by (in order) ‘Take It Away’, ‘Mr Reggae’, and ‘Controller’. The fifth spot went to Six 60’s all-time classic ‘Don’t Forget Your Roots’.

Aotearoa’s Most Streamed Global Artists, Songs and Albums

Obviously, we also listened to the biggest names in music around the world and Spotify shared those stats too. There are only a couple of surprises in this mix and a good blend of genres. Of course, we reckon there needs to be more Hip Hop and RNB.
