'They got the right one': Kendrick Lamar to headline 2025 Super Bowl

"Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer"

Kendrick Lamar has been announced as the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX halftime show performer.

The news marks the second time the 37-year-old American rap star will perform at a halftime show - but it is his first as the solo lead performer.

The big event - which marks the end of the NFL season - will take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on 9 February 2025, is to be produced by Jay Z's Roc Nation, and will air via Fox in the USA.

The Poetic Justice singer said in a statement on Sunday, "Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I'll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one."

Jay Z added, "Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick's work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come."

Lamar previously took part in the 2022 halftime show as he enjoyed co-billing alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige.

The music icons were joined by 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak as special guests for the sporting event - which saw the Los Angeles Rams triumph over the Cincinnati Bengals .
